Cruise Vacations Etiquette
Being on a cruise vacation is a great way to unwind andkick back. However, since you’re on a ship with hundreds to thousands of other people, there are some things you should learn when cruising. Cruising is not like Las Vegas in the sense that “what happens on a cruise ship stays on a cruise ship”, you have to remember that there are many different age groups on the ship and going crazy and over indulging while on your vacation is a great way for you to leave embarrassed. Here are a few good rules to follow so that you won’t end up embarrassing yourself and your friends.
Remember, everything is not going to be going as planned when on a cruise vacations. You may meet nastly, eat disgusting food, rough weather, unfavorable cabin conditions or unruly dining mates. Whatever it is just let it go and try to relax. It’s your cruise vacations and you shouldn’t let it be ruined a few incidences. Just because you’re on a cruise doesn’t mean that all manners goes out the door. A cruise ship is not sin city and you will have to abide by the rules. Some poor form is when large people saunter around the deck with their underwear on or in their pajamas. It’s not your house and little kids will be able to see you. That also goes for clothing; people do not want to see your package and every curve of your body. Try to be modest and cover up when necessary. There comes a time when Speedo’s are not appropriate while on deck.
First of all, if you have a lot of filthy clothes, wash them! The rooms are tiny and the smell from your clothes can waft into the hallway. Piled up dirty clothes also make your cabin un-walkable. Also, the stewards and house maids will have a hard time maneuvering around the cabin. Dirty clothes and clutter will make everyone’s life miserable and could possibly be a hazard to those trying to walk around your cabin. When leaving your cabin, try not to slam the door. You are in close proximity with other guests and can send vibrations and loud noises through their cabin if you continuously shut your door. Other people who are trying to sleep in the morning will especially disapprove of you slamming your door.
Discount cruise vacations cabins are small and the walls are thin. Also, if it’s a busy part of the day, try to use the stairs instead of the elevator. Many people try to crowd in the elevators during meal time and when disembarking. It’ll be easier for you to get around if you just take a little bit of effort to walk the stairs. While on deck, do not save deck chairs by draping your belongings over them. These chairs are a first come first serve basis and if you are not ready to use them, let someone else have them.
Many of the crew mates will get a bit annoyed with you if you use the wrong terminology while on board. Do not call a cruise ship a boat. The port side of the ship is on the left the starboard side on the right side. The front part of the ship is called the bow and the back end is the aft. You can tell which is the front and the back by the shape of the ship. The pointy end of the boat is the front, or the aft and the back end of the boat is blunt. If there is a long-line to meet the captain, go ahead and take it easy in one of the lounges until the line dies done. Besides, the captain isn’t going anywhere and you can grab a few drinks while everyone else is impatiently waiting in line. Also, if the captain asks you to dinner, never decline this offer. It’s a great honor to be offered dinner by the captain and you should never refuse.
If you are on a Disney cruise vacations with a large group of people, try not to complain and grumble all the time. Your negative energy will be transferred to all the other people in your group and will make the trip miserable for you and those around you. If you have a problem, try to handle it in a civilized manner and don’t pore down your fellow cruise mates. If you do have some problems with your cabin mates, give each other some space and go your separate ways for awhile. Participate in a shore excursion without them and do a few activities separately. Make sure that ground rules are established before going on the cruise.
When on cruise vacations shore excursions, make sure to come back and clean off before going on deck. Do not track mud and other dirt onto the ship. Make sure to take off your boots and shoes before entering the ship and take your belongings back to the cabin. If everyone were to come back and track mud onto the ship, the ship would be filthy.
If you have children and want to watch a show, try to sit in the back rows. Children are distracting to the actors and small children that become restless tend to distract guests and the audience around them. Also, your children should not be allowed to roam the ship by themselves. There are many hazards that could possibly danger their lives.
